Education Beyond Academics

Unlike other programs, we don’t make you choose between outdoor coursework and accredited academics in a traditional classroom setting. Students experience multiple academic environments during their time at Trails.

We believe that segmenting groups by age and gender allows our team of mental health professionals, residential and field staff, and accredited academic educators to provide more focused and effective personalized care to each student. Additionally, evidence shows that using segmented peer groups helps students learn to build positive relationships among their own peers. This makes the transition back to traditional school settings easier for young people. And it helps our students learn how to interact and build healthy connections for life!

Trails Carolina’s Troubled Youth Programs are dedicated to helping adolescents and teens work through behavioral or emotional difficulties, build trusting relationships with their family and peers, and achieve academic success.

Through a comprehensive and tailored approach, our experienced clinicians provide support to each student, helping them to achieve growth, well-being, and success that extends beyond Trails.

The individualized therapeutic process at Trails involves:

  • an initial assessment to help your child's primary therapist gain a better understanding of your child’s mindset upon arrival,
  • an individualized treatment plan developed in a collaborative effort between the primary therapist, your child, and you,
  • weekly individual therapy sessions between the student and their primary therapist that includes creative intervention strategies based on your child's personalized treatment plan,
  • and the development and review of your child’s personal therapeutic plan with input from the entire Trails team of experts.
