Summer Camps For Troubled Teens

We Help Your Child Get Back On Track Over The Summer

We Offer Therapeutic Summer Camps For Troubled Teens

Is your child struggling with behavioral issues that are impacting their emotional health and wellbeing? Are you concerned that your teen will fall victim to peer pressure which may lead to substance abuse or criminal behavior if left with too much time on their hands this summer?

Instead of sending your troubled teen to a boot camp or traditional therapeutic boarding school, consider the better alternative of a therapeutic summer camp for troubled teens

At Trails Carolina, we offer a wilderness therapy program and therapeutic summer camp for boys and girls aged 10-17.

Our unique wilderness programs combine the benefits of the traditional therapy practices used in residential treatment centers with adventure activities, equine therapy, family involvement, and accredited academics designed to help troubled youth create positive change that lasts.

What Are Summer Camps For Troubled Teens?

In some ways similar to therapeutic boarding schools, summer camps for troubled teens are shorter-term teen treatment programs that specifically help teens over the summer months. These therapeutic summer camps may include varying levels of support from therapists and other clinicians. Teens attending behavioral summer camps often struggle with a range of mental health and behavioral issues.

Parents considering a summer camp treatment program for troubled teens may be interested in Trails Carolina as an option for their child. Trails Carolina is widely considered one of the most effective solutions to behavioral and emotional challenges such as anxiety, depression, defiance, school refusal, and attachment issues.

Sending your child away to receive therapeutic help can be one the toughest decisions a parent can make for their child. At Trails, we understand how difficult this decision can be. Our family-focused programming ensures that you will always be in the loop. We believe that involving the family in every step of the therapeutic process ensures lasting success.

Wilderness-Based Summer Camps For Troubled Teens Ages 10-17

The summertime can be the best time to get your child the help they need. Out of school and left with nothing to do over the summer, this is often the time that teens act out the most. Sending your child away to receive help for their struggles might be one of the most difficult,  important decisions you’ll ever make for your child. As one of the leading wilderness therapy programs for teens, Trails Carolina helps teens achieve lasting success throughout the year, including the summer months.

What Are The Benefits Of Summer Camps For Troubled Teens At Trails Carolina?

Sending your troubled teenager to a therapeutic summer camp like Trails Carolina can be incredibly beneficial for them. Not only will they benefit from the specialized therapy and evidence-based, trauma-informed practices provided by our expert mental health professionals, but they will also have access to adventure activities that are designed to help them develop life skills like resilience, leadership, team building, and self-confidence.

Activities like hiking, backpacking, camping, and more provide teens with an opportunity to challenge themselves in a safe environment while learning important social skills such as communication and problem-solving. Adventure activities give teens the chance to take risks in a controlled setting so that they can experience success without fear of judgment.

Here are some more of the benefits that Trails Carolina provides:

Removal from the everyday environment: Spending their days out in nature working with therapeutic and recreational staff, students at Trails are completely removed from their everyday environment. They don’t have access to their cell phones or social media. This allows them to completely focus on their own personal growth and healing.

Gaining self-confidence and communication skills: Throughout their time at Trails, students take part in team-building activities and group therapy sessions which help them better understand the ways in which their actions affect others. Students are segmented into peer groups by age and gender (boys 10-13, boys 14-17, girls 10-13, and girls 14-17).

Healing and learning through nature: Students at Trails have the opportunity to work with therapeutic animals such as horses through our equine therapy program. During their time at our residential base camp setting, students learn from and interact with snakes, possums, lizards, fish, and other unique animals.

Repairing family relationships: Our family programming includes weekly family therapy sessions intended to repair and rebuild your relationship with your child. Family programming also includes sibling work.

Our clinically proven methods work exceptionally well with students who are struggling with:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Family conflict
  • Low self-esteem
  • Trauma
  • Social isolation
  • Self-harm
  • Suicide ideation
  • Adoption
  • Defiant behavior/Oppositional Defiant Disorder
  • Gaming and technology obsession
  • Substance use
  • Attachment issues
  • Manipulative behavior
  • Poor academic achievement
  • Learning differences
  • School refusal
  • ADHD
  • Mood dysregulation
  • Autism (high functioning)

Post-Summer Camp Preparation: Practicing Transitions Back Into the Real World

Other summer camps for troubled teens help campers gain new skills and make positive changes while they are in the program. However, as soon as they go home those new skills and changes go out the window.

At Trails, students are constantly practicing transitioning the skills and behaviors they have learned throughout the program. During their time at our program, students cycle through a variety of environments: from a wilderness environment to base camp to equine programming to a traditional classroom.

Throughout those settings, students transfer the skills they learn from one environment to the next. This ensures that those changes will smoothly transfer into the real world once your child graduates from our program
