Kyle Shepard

Kyle is a Licensed Recreational Therapist in the state of North Carolina (LRT), and a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).

Kyle began working with youth and adolescents undergoing treatment in 2008. Throughout his early career, he enjoyed working with students in residential programs and outdoor settings as a direct care staff, adventure leader, and beyond.  During those experiences, he grew passionate about the positive role that recreation, adventure, and the outdoors played in the progress of individual students.  Due to these experiences, Kyle became nationally certified and licensed in the state of North Carolina as a Recreational Therapist in 2012. Over the course of his career, he has held a number of leadership positions, most notably, Program Director and Executive Director of a Therapeutic Boarding School.  Throughout his time working at a therapeutic boarding school, he continued to ensure that outdoors and adventure programming remained a mechanism for the growth and development of students.  

Kyle joined the Trails Carolina team in 2019, bringing his passion for program development and helping to implement programs that create opportunities for challenge, success, and engagement for students.  Kyle enjoys his role training and mentoring staff to help them best serve the students at Trails.  While not at work, Kyle loves to go on adventures with his two dogs, mountain biking, and traveling with his wife.
