Cass McCormick, LMFTA
Family Coach & Primary Therapist
Cass has Certifications in Addiction Counseling and Multicultural Counseling from Appalachian State University. She specializes in using a Family Systems approach.
Cass McCormick is a Family Coach and Primary Therapist (LMFTA) who has worked with a variety of populations including elder and middle-aged adults, adolescents, and children. She practices from the mindset of systems theory. Instead of focusing on an individual as a separate entity, systems theory strives to understand individuals within the context of their relationships, gender socialization, sexual orientation socialization, class status, and the ways in which larger systems (i.e. governmental institutions) interact within the individual’s life.
As a systems therapist, Cass has experience in working with individuals, couples, and families. She works collaboratively with the families she helps to better understand their narrative and guide them toward developing a new story about themselves that better fits who they want to be.
Prior to joining Trails Carolina, Cass was a field guide at a young adult wilderness program. Her combined background of systems training and on-the-ground experience provides her with a unique perspective when working with students coming to wilderness programs. In her free time, Cass enjoys hiking with her new puppy, reading, and adventuring.

Trails saved my daughter’s life. Amanda is an amazing human and a brilliant therapist. I am so grateful to her, Science Steve, and the other wonderful people who could reach my daughter at a time when I could not.
